About Us

We’d like to take a moment to tell you about us. It was only recently when my partner and I took a 3 day break from the daily grind. We checked in for a couple of nights to the lovely Champagne house of Ployez-Jacquemart, and even though it may be on the doorstep of our second home, we still felt like being on holiday. Our room overlooked the vineyards above Reims which shimmered in the scorching summer heat.

When we arrived, it was probably one of the hottest weekends of the summer. Temperatures just below 40°C. We were desperate to find shelter from the baking sun. One option we came up with was to bury ourselves underground in a champagne cellar. Instead, we chose to retire to our hotel room to take a picnic of local cheese and ham with a wonderful bottle of Premier Cru from Verzy, sitting in our amazing bath in cool splendour looking out over the vineyards north of Reims. In the end, this became our lunch and dinner ritual and was where the idea of developing this blog was sown. We chatted for hours about how best to share the knowledge we have gained over the years.

Sitting in the bath I was trying to think of a suitable name for the blog. My partner said “I know, its simple, we’ll call it  ‘Champagnion’, it means Champagne Companion, that’s who we are”.

We have a passion for discovering independent champagne producers and learning about the seemingly infinite ways to make champagne and we’d spent hours walking in vineyards dreaming of one day owning our own. Nothing is ever that simple though because we travel a lot.

Never-the-less we always seem to find time to discover new sparkling wines during our travels, whether visiting Napa Valley in California, Franschoek in South Africa or the hills of Valdobbiadene in Italy.

In the end, we always come back to our first love, Champagne.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, we’d be happy to help. If you want to know more about us or have comments or suggestions please drop us a line. You can also find the Champagnion on Instagram and Facebook.

Until then, “Votre Santé…!”
