Champagne Yves Jacopé

yves jacope

Champagne Yves Jacopé are located in the village of Broyes in the Côte de Sézanne. They began business in the 1960’s and have been making Champagne for 3 generations. The current owners are Hervé and Sylvia and apart from the farm housing the winery and cellars, they also run a Gîte that can house 4-6 people.

We were told about Champagne Yves Jacopé by someone working at a large Champagne house on the Montagne de Reims. They knew we liked low dosage champagne and advised us to visit the Yves Jacopé because their Champagne is made with a dosage of 0.5 g/ltr.

Terroir

Champagne Yves Jacopé own 6 hectares on the southeast facing ridge of the Côte de Sézanne. They predominantly grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but also a bit of Pinot Meunier on predominantly chalky soils. The sub-region is famous for Chardonnay and due to the aspect of the terroir of the ridgeline the grapes in the Côte de Sézanne tend to ripen earlier than other regions.

The Champagne

There are only 4 people in winery and they take care of all aspects of the business. The press, winery and cellars have recently been refurbished.

Champagne Yves Jacopé offer 5 cuvée:

Brut Tradition – The non-vintage ‘house’ Champagne is a blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. Dosage 0.5 g/ltr

Brut Rosé – 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir. The rosé Champagne is more an orangey-pink due to the high percentage of white grapes. This a bright tasting champagne with many more notes of citrus and green apples from the Chardonnay and only a hint of red fruits from the Pinot Noir. The Champagne does taste dry for a rosé. Dosage 0.5 g/ltr. €14.50 cellar price

Blanc de Blancs – 100% Chardonnay. Very bright lots of classic citrus and green apples with a touch of minerality. Dosage 0.5 g/ltr

Blanc de Blancs Prestige – 100% Chardonnay. This is a particularly good Chardonnay, a lovely example from the Côte de Sézanne. I get brioche and a touch of nuts on the note and then citrus and green apples with brioche on the palate. This is non-vintage but has an aroma palate quite like a younger vintage Champagne. Dosage 0.5 g/ltr. Absolutely outstanding value at €13.80 cellar price

Blanc de Noirs – Pinot Noir. Rich straw in the glass, pleasant nose with plenty of red fruit, raspberry, strawberry progressing to blackberry. I got a hint of Mirabelle and peach, is their Meunier in the blend? This is a well-balanced Champagne. Dosage 0.5 g/ltr €15.00 cellar price.
