Champagne Ployez-Jacquemant
Champagne Tasting at Ployez-Jaquemant

Champagne Ployez-Jacquemant are located in Ludes on the Montagne de Reims. They specialize in producing low dosage champagne only made from the first grape pressing. Champagne Ployez-Jacquemant produce 9 cuvées some of which we have reviewed on Vivino.

Extra Brut Passion

The Extra Brut Passion made with a dosage of 3g/ltr was one of the stand-out champagnes of our visit. The grape blend is 44% Pinot Noir, 18% Pinot Meunier and 38% Chardonnay. The interesting point about this champagne is that it uses 25% champagne aged for 2 years in Bordeaux oak barrels without malolactic fermentation with the remaining 75% of the grapes coming from the annual harvest.

Ployez-Jacquemart treat the Extra Brut Passion very like a top class vintage Champagne. The Champagne bottles are placed on their necks in racks in the chalk cellar, this is called ‘sur pointes‘ in French. This preserves the effects of aging by moving the lees into the neck, lessening the Champagne’s contact with the lees.

The Champagne is then aged in the company’s cellar for a further 4 – 5 years. The Extra Brut Passion is a vintage-like champagne for a non-vintage price.

The Taste

The nose gives citrus and green apples with a slight hint of acidity. On the palate I can sense citrus and green apples with a touch of mirabelle and there is also a hint of yeast and crisp acidity. The finish is long and pleasing, this is a very classy champagne.
